What is Connecticut’s Autism Waiver?

The Connecticut Department of Social Services (DSS) administers the Waiver for Persons with Autism. It provides home- and community-based supports for eligible people with autism who do not have an intellectual disability, with the goal of supporting independence and participation in community life.

Enrollment and access depend on the state’s eligibility requirements and program capacity. A waiting list applies. Mindrise does not determine state program eligibility or authorize a person’s waiver services.

What does an Autism Waiver service provider do?

A provider delivers the services they are approved to offer within a participant’s authorized plan. The waiver includes several kinds of support; being a waiver provider does not mean an organization offers every service in the program.

One program category is clinical behavioral supports. DSS describes this as assessing behavioral needs, developing support strategies, helping families and support teams use those strategies, and reviewing progress. These supports focus on everyday functioning and community inclusion.

During intake, Mindrise will discuss which of its services fit your needs and individual plan, along with current availability.
